Aloha and soowa sdey chenam tmey,

It is a pleasure to extend my warmest aloha to everyone celebrating the Cambodian New Year at Central Union Church. And as the new year begins, it marks a perfect opportunity to take pride in the Khmer culture, as well as the contributions Hawaii's Cambodian community have made here in the islands.

Cambodian culture is unique. And the weaving of that culture into the fabric of our island state enhances all of our lives. Today's celebration is important as it honors Cambodia's rich history; it enables others to experience and learn about your beautiful Khmer culture through food, song and dance.

I regret my schedule prevents me from enjoying your "Hidden Treasures" festivities on this special New Year celebration. I look forward to working together as we nurture and strengthen our relationships in the community.

Best wishes for a happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year.

Aloha,

Mazie K. Hirono
